PSC TAGLINE
ROPES
Taglines or restraint lines must be utilized whenever the rotation or swinging of a load poses a hazard or when the load requires guidance. In summary, loads that need continuous manual guidance while in motion should be equipped with taglines. Additionally, taglines are mandatory for loads that are likely to swing or need guidance.
What is Hands-free lifting?
Hands-Free Lifting
Hands-free lifting occurs when an individual does not touch a suspended weight, using any part of their body, that is attached to a mechanical or crane lifting mechanism.

This definition also includes any load that is lifted or placed down before all potential energy has been released. Hand injuries account for more than half of all industrial injuries. Many of these injuries can be reduced or even eliminated by employing safer techniques for handling suspended loads, as well as using safer lifting equipment, work practices, and tools. The goal of hands-free lifting is to prevent incidents related to being caught between, struck by, or struck against objects by removing the energy source from hands and fingers. While our hands and fingers are invaluable tools that enable us to accomplish many tasks, there are no replacement parts available if they become damaged.
“NEVER TOUCH A SUSPENDED LOAD WITH ANY PART OF YOUR BODY”
Tool #1 – The Correct Mindset, The most critical tool you can have, which money cannot buy from Project Sales Corp, is the correct mindset. It’s important to accept and let go of the natural urge to get close to the rigging and hold it in place until the tension is increased, ensuring that the load is properly slung and balanced. Remember that lifting off and landing are the most dangerous aspects of any lifting operation, so always stay as far away from the load as possible.
What is a Tagline Rope?
A tagline rope, also known as a guide rope, rigging tagline, crane tagline, lifting tagline, end line, strap line, or pay-off line, is a critical safety tool used worldwide to control loads during lifting operations. While the terminology may vary by region, “tagline” remains the most widely recognized term.
Tag lines are essential when a suspended load may rotate or swing, creating a potential hazard. They are also required when a load needs manual guidance. In such scenarios, using anti-tangle tagline ropes ensures better control and safety. Loads that require continuous manual steering while in motion must be equipped with taglines to prevent accidents and ensure operational stability.
PRODUCT RANGE
Project Sales Corp has introduced the PSC LoadGuider safety tagline, designed to eliminate the issues associated with the use of PP ropes. These taglines are specifically crafted for hands-free lifting applications.
Cost-effective alternative to our Polyex PSC LoadGuider Taglines, featuring a high-visibility orange coated end for easy, safe grip in low light conditions.
PSC has launched its new PSC Guide It Safety Rigger Tagline, made from the finest polyester fibers and featuring a 14mm diameter. It includes a unique ultra-lightweight 25kN galvanized steel composite swivel hook that opens to 2 inches, making it easy to attach to the load. Additionally, it comes equipped with a safety latch for added security.
When must Tagline Rope be used?

When a crane lifts a static (non-moving) load, that load can swing back and forth due to wind or other external factors. This swinging motion poses a control hazard, creating a risk not only for the crane operator and banksman but also for those involved in landing and positioning the load.

The crane or boom movement can cause the load to swing uncontrollably, posing a safety risk.

The load is rotating uncontrollably, has become unstable, or may pose a hazard.
Tagline Rope Material Options
The load is rotating out of control, has rotated out of control, or is likely to rotate out of control, posing a hazard. Therefore, use the Tagline rope for lifting.
Tagline ropes should be made of suitable soft fibers, such as non-rotating synthetic or natural fibers that do not pose the same manual handling risks as wire rope. They should ideally be made of 100% polyester braid-on-braid (braided core with braided cover) rope, such as the PSC Load Guider® Tagline. Or, like the PSC SafeGuider Tagline, a polypropylene rope coated with urethane compounds to stiffen it.
When used as tagline ropes, standard polypropylene, nylon, or sisal ropes have several inherent issues:
They tend to wrap around objects.
They can easily become entangled in tight spaces.
The ends fray, requiring ties to prevent the fraying from catching the line.
When wet or soiled with grease, they become slippery.
FACT CHECK: During a lifting operation, a polypropylene (PP) rope tagline became entangled around a worker’s left leg. As the crane operator lifted the load, the worker was pulled up approximately 15 to 20 feet above the deck of the workboat until the tagline broke. The worker then fell onto his back, landing on top of a basket. He was subsequently transported to the hospital but was later released to return to work on light duty.
