PSC TAGLINE
ROPES

Taglines or restraint lines must be used when rotation or swinging of the load is or may become hazardous or if the load needs guidance. In brief, loads requiring continuous manual guidance while in motion shall be provided with tag lines, and required tag lines must be used “on loads likely to swing or which need guidance”.

What is Hands-free lifting?

Hands-free lifting occurs when a person does not touch a suspended weight (with any part of their body) that is attached to a mechanical lifting or crane lifting mechanism. This refers to any load that is being lifted or placed down before all potential energy has been released.

Hand injuries account for more than half of all industrial injuries. Many injuries can be reduced, if not eliminated, by employing safer techniques of handling suspended loads and employing safer lifting equipment, work practices, and tools. The goal of hands-free lifting is to prevent any caught-between, struck-by, and struck-against events by removing the energy source from the hands and fingers. Hands and fingers are a tool that allows you to perform amazing things with them, but there are no replacement parts available if you damage them.”

NEVER TOUCH A SUSPENDED LOAD WITH ANY PART OF YOUR BODY

Tool #1 – The Correct Mindset is the most critical tool that money can’t purchase from Project Sales Corp. Accepting and letting go of the natural urge to get near to the rigging and hold it in place until the tension is increased to ensure the load is properly slung and balanced is required. Remember that lifting off and landing is the most dangerous aspect of a lifting operation, therefore stay as far away from the load as possible.

What is a Tagline Rope?

Tagline rope is a  safety tool also known as guide rope, rigging tag line, crane tagline, lifting tagline rope , end line, strap line, and pay-off line, depending on where you are in the world, but “Tag line” is the most frequent word for using a piece of rope.

When the load’s rotation or swinging is or may become hazardous, or if the load requires guidance, tag lines or safety restraint lines must be utilized. In summary, loads that require constant manual guiding while in motion must be equipped with anti-tangle tagline rope, and safety tagline must be used “on loads that are liable to swing or that require guidance.”

PRODUCT RANGE

Project Sales Corp has brought in the PSC LoadGuider safety tangle free Taglines to solve the problems associated with the use of PP ropes. These taglines are specifically designed for the hands free lifting applications.

Economical alternative to our Polyex PSC LoadGuider Taglines with high visibility orange coated end for easy safe grip and low light applications.

PSC launched its new PSC Guide It Safety Rigger Tagline that is made of finest polyester fibers in 14mm diameter with a unique ultra-lightweight 25kN galvanized steel composite swivel hook that opens 2” making it easy to attach to the load and comes with a safety latch.

When must Tagline Rope be used?

Crane Safety Tips

The static (non-moving) load suspended by the crane lifting can swing or is likely to swing back and forth (due to wind or other external factors), posing a control hazard. It could be a landing and positioning hazard, not just for the crane operator and banks man

The crane or boom movement causes or is likely to cause the load to swing out of control, posing a safety danger

The load is rotating out of control, has rotated out of control, or is likely to rotate out of control, posing a hazard.

Tagline Rope Material Options

The load is rotating out of control, has rotated out of control, or is likely to rotate out of control, posing a hazard. Therefore use Tagline rope for lifting.

Tagline ropes should be made of suitable soft fibers, such as non-rotating synthetic or natural fibers that do not pose the same manual handling risks as wire rope. They should ideally be made of 100% polyester braid on braid (braided core with braided cover) rope, such as the PSC Load Guider® Tagline. Or, like the PSC SafeGuider Tagline, a polypropylene rope coated with urethane compounds to stiffen it.

When used as a tagline rope, a standard polypropylene, nylon, or sisal rope has some inherent problems:

They have a tendency to wrap themselves around items.
They become entangled in tight spaces.
The bottoms fray and are tied to prevent the fraying from catching the line.
When they’re wet or soiled with grease, they become slick.

FACT CHECK: While lifting a load, a PP rope tagline is wrapped around the left leg of a worker. The crane operator lifted the load, pulling the worker up 15‐20 feet off the deck of the workboat until the tagline broke. The worker landed on his back on top of a basket. He was transported to the hospital and was later released back to work (light duty).
