PSC FingerSaver™ Do’s and Don’ts

Safe use guidance for hammering, striking and pinch-point tasks

Follow these instructions to maintain controlled standoff distance, keep hands away from impact zones and use the PSC FingerSaver correctly.

Perform a pre-task risk assessment

Identify impact zones, pinch points, line-of-fire exposure, access restrictions and the safest working position before starting.

Inspect the tool before use

Check the body, grip and holding points for visible damage, looseness, heavy wear or contamination that could reduce secure control.

Select the correct FingerSaver size

Use a length that provides sufficient separation without reducing control or creating an awkward working position.

Wear safety goggles for striking work and use all additional PPE required by the task, site procedure and risk assessment.

Use the correct hammer weight

Match the hammer to the task and use a natural, controlled swing. Do not compensate for a mismatched hammer by overswinging.

Hold only the designated grip

Maintain a secure, comfortable hold on the FingerSaver grip and keep both hands outside the identified impact and pinch zones.

Confirm stable control before striking

Make sure the chisel, punch, fitting, bolt or workpiece is positioned securely and the FingerSaver is stable before impact begins.

Stop when control is lost

Pause the task immediately if the workpiece moves unexpectedly, visibility is poor, access changes or the grip becomes insecure.

Prohibited use

Do not do these

The FingerSaver is a hand-positioning and workpiece-control tool. It must not be used outside its intended purpose.

Do not use it as a lifting device

The FingerSaver is not rated for lifting, load-bearing, supporting suspended weight or controlling suspended loads.

Do not repair or modify the tool

Do not drill, cut, heat, reshape, replace parts or attempt an unauthorised repair. Contact PSC if damage is detected.

Do not use a damaged tool

Remove the FingerSaver from service if the grip, body or holding components are cracked, loose, heavily worn or unable to maintain control.

Do not place a hand inside the hazard zone

Do not steady the workpiece with the free hand or reach beyond the FingerSaver grip while striking, tightening or loosening.

Do not strike the FingerSaver itself

Apply impact only to the intended hammering point, chisel, punch, flogging spanner or workpiece—not to the FingerSaver handle or grip.

Do not overswing or use a mismatched hammer

Excessive force and uncontrolled swings increase the chance of a glancing blow, missed strike and loss of workpiece control.

Do not use it as a pry bar or lever

Do not use the FingerSaver for prying, pulling, levering or any task that applies unintended side loading to the tool.

Do not continue in unsafe conditions

Stop if lighting, access, footing, alignment, communication or task conditions prevent controlled use and safe separation.

Four steps before impact

Identify the hazard zone

Locate the expected strike path, pinch points, line of fire and possible movement of the workpiece.

Choose and inspect the FingerSaver

Select the correct length and confirm the tool is clean, undamaged and able to maintain a secure grip.

Position and control the workpiece

Hold the intended item with the FingerSaver while keeping the operator’s hands outside the identified hazard zone.

Strike with controlled force

Use the correct hammer and stop immediately if alignment, visibility or control changes during the task.

Stop use immediately when damage is found

Do not continue and do not attempt a repair. Isolate the tool from service and contact PSC Hand Safety or authorised personnel for guidance.

What should I inspect before using it?
Check the tool for cracks, looseness, heavy wear and grip contamination. Confirm that the selected model can control the workpiece while keeping the hand outside the impact or pinch zone.
Can it be used to lift or support weight?
No. The PSC FingerSaver is not designed or rated as a lifting, load-bearing or suspended-load control device.
Which size should I choose?
Use 295 mm for punches, chisels and confined access, 350 mm for standard flogging spanner work, and 850 mm where maximum hand-to-hazard separation or teamwork is required.
What should I do if the tool is damaged?
Stop using it, remove it from service and contact PSC Hand Safety or authorised personnel. Do not repair, modify or replace components yourself.
